My wife recently had a major operation after cancer was discovered. This operation has left her with great difficulty in getting in and out of the bath for a shower...
I decided to put in a walk in shower. Being a Veteran myself I approached the Veterans Association for a grant after talking to friends who are also Veterans.
I filled in the required paperwork as requested and returned. The paperwork stated that I would have a decision within 28 days. I did in fact receive a decision in 48 hours which was approved.
The plumber starts work next Monday the 27th. All I can say on behalf of my wife Jackie and me is many, many thanks.
I will follow up with photos later.
Staff were very friendly and couldn't help enough with any problem and a very fast sorting out any issues I had if you are in need of help all I can say is ask and they will help point you in the right direction and help you where needed.
From the moment they answered the phone, I knew this was different to my experience with other charities...
Instead of asking "what do you need" they asked me what I wanted to achieve. Then they asked what the barriers were and set about finding ways they could help me to move forward.
A laptop was hand delivered not long after our conversation. This enabled me to achieve level 1 and 2 Makaton training and I am currently on a level 2 mentoring course until January, then a level 2 counselling course.
They also provided assessment for autism and ADHD. Age 52 I finally had a diagnosis. It's difficult to put into words the impact this has had on my life. It’s like I have permission to be myself.
I still face struggles, however the support of this charity has already changed my life. Thank you.
